Let’s talk about Pinterest.

Hey guys. I don’t get it. What’s up with the Pinterest obsession? I have read about eleventy billion papers from students on the topic, and I even wrote about Pinterest (before it was popular, mind you, because I’m just that hipster) when I was the tech columnist for WORLD, and I still don’t get it.

Every so often I start feeling like I must be missing something. I’m hardly a late adopter. People ask me to write / talk about technology. I buy Apple products. So I log into the site and poke around and leave saying meh.

Enlighten me?

    • I use Tumblr for miniblogging (like what magazines do) and that’s about it – but I’ve been on it a long time, off and on, so I think I use it for different things than some.

  1. I use pinterest as a visual version of Evernote. The advantage of Pinterest over Evernote in this capacity is that I can see a whole board at once. I pin clothing I might want to buy, recipies I might want to try, and art/decor I like. I don’t spend a lot of time trolling. If I were planning an event or trying to find new ways to wear something I own I might look on pinterest. I might be on it once a week. I do like following people who pin lots of pretty things though.

  2. I’m a fan. I love to craft and create during my down time and I love having visual cues to kickstart that. For me, it’s the best part of a magazine condendsed and multiplied. I’ve been on it for over a year and you have to follow the right people. It’s a visual feed reader, in a way, for me. I also appreciate the bookmarking tendencies, though people certainly use it wrongly and I’ve been told a thousand times I should use Evernote.
